Jeff Niesen was born in Dunedin, Florida in 1984. Of parents with Minnesotan roots, Jeff was exposed early on to the North Shore. His adolescent summers and Christmas breaks were spent on Caribou Lake in Lutsen where he came to revere the natural landscape and it’s inhabitants. While the extent of Jeff’s arts education was in theatre in arts magnet programs throughout middle and high school, he is self-taught in the field of visual art.
In addition to three informal exhibitions in Barcelona, Spain, Jeff has previously shown work in a solo exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa Fl. For much of his career as a working artist Jeff has consistently taken pet portrait commissions from private clients. Jeff has also worked as an illustrator and costume designer while living in New York and paid the bills as an art handler. Jeff is continually inspired by applying portraiture to the wild cast of characters of the North Shore in order to share his affinity for his subjects’ individuality and personality with the viewer.
Jeff lives and works in Grand Marais, Mn.
