Inukshuk

Inukshuk carving from Inuit artist Isaac Ohotaq of Cape Dorset, Nunavut, Canada.

Carved in serpentine, locally quarried stone on Baffin Island. Inukshuks were strategically placed on landscapes to help with caribou hunting, to cache food, and for other important purposes. The name “inukshuk” in the Inuit language means “like a man/human.”
