ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I paint to communicate serenity and tranquillity as it is expressed to me by the world in which I live. The forest, the shore and Lake Superior constantly impress me with their many moods. Mixed qualities of light, water and color fascinate me just as they have since I first encountered them in my north shore home. I am inspired by my immediate surroundings of town and country to capture the constant changing of perspectives in a variety of media.
My paintings range from realism to semi-abstraction and reveal my use of mixed media and collage. I am challenged by working with color, image, texture and collage until my paintings come to life for me. I believe the process of developing a work allows me to communicate my emotional involvement with the subject matter.
Most of my painting is completed in my studio. Weather influences where I can work, so although some work is done in the field I find that I usually bring the subject into my studio by way of sketches and photos. There I seek to create in my paintings a sense of peace which I can offer to an often hectic world.
