TAMERA ANDERSEN
Tamera Andersen comes from a family of artists. Her father was a commercial artist for Brown and Bigelow in
Saint Paul
, and her two younger sisters are practicing artists and art specialists in the Twin Cities public schools.
Several years ago Tamera changed from primarily watercolor painting to acrylic painting on paper and canvas. She has made several multi-painted pieces on canvas, stitched together and hung from wooden limbs. “I like the tension of images close together and floating in space without the boundaries of a frame.” Tamera’s subject matter, whether the white tail deer or a stream, always has a spiritual connection. Her mentor, Jantje Visscher, calls it “pantheistic.” Tamera credits Janjte with encouraging her commitment and confidence in her vision.
Since summer 2000 Tamera has been in and out of the studio working in theatres as an actor and mentor, and in radio theatre with the Flying Leap Players of Grand Marais. She recently participated in an exhibit at a
St. Paul
gallery with her two sisters. She also has been knitting with a passion! “Now I am excited about ideas I have for new work and being in the studio producing.”
ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I cycle and recycle these themes in my work: the presence of nature, death, birth, and survival.
The natural world always presents to me an ageless and unknown spirit. I think my work is a shadow of the reality of things and spaces.
