TODD VOSS
Born in 1966, Todd Voss became interested in art and nature while growing up in Davenport, Iowa. Summer trips to northern Wisconsin and the South Shore of Lake Superior promoted an appreciation of the northern landscape.
Following his college career in Fairfield, Iowa and some exploring in the western regions of the United States, Todd settled on the North Shore. From his studio in a converted barn overlooking Lake Superior, Todd experiences firsthand the pure and natural surroundings necessary to inspire his paintings.
Todd's painting process begins with outdoor observations and the study of nature, often taking "notes" with his camera. In the studio he uses memory, photos and instinct to guide his quick and direct method of painting. His oils are painted on primed illustration board and masonite.
Artist's Statement As a dedicated realistic oil painter of farm and lake landscapes and animals, my goal is to journey, through my artwork, evermore deeply into a relationship with my surroundings and, in this process, not only create enduring images that express the preciousness of nature, but also connect us with something greater than ourselves.
